About the campaign
No Coal Japan is working to ensure the Japanese Government, Japanese financial institutions and corporations stop supporting harmful new coal power projects in Japan and overseas.
We are a coalition made up of dozens of civil society organisations, from Japan and around the world, working together to prevent the reckless rise of new coal plants.
While the rest of the world moves towards safe, reliable renewable energy, Japan is considering funding a fleet of new coal-fired power stations in Southeast Asia and beyond.
Coal projects funded and supported by Japan have deadly consequences. These projects worsen air pollution for local communities, and drive the world towards catastrophic climate change.
Communities, civil society, and activists all over Japan – as well as communities in recipient countries – are working hard to encourage Japanese government, politicians, corporations and investors to support clean, renewable energy.
International pressure from people all over the world demanding clean energy will help ensure Japan stops pushing coal energy.
